REFUGE PDX

So, let me start off with...this weekend was amazing.  The Alga-Rhythms launch was more than we could have ever hoped for.  The Whiskey was jumping until 2:30am.  Tim Green played an incredible set.  The crew and  Tim mobbed to Refuge in time for us to take over the afterhours there.  Then some down time happened before we all rallied to the BEACH PARTY.  8 hours of dancing in the sand to Tim Green, J Phlip and The Perfect Cyn.  INCREDIBLE!  Thank you party people for making it happen.  Once more pictures get posted I will compile them all and put them on here.
So, to the left is pictures of Refuge, Portland's newest music/multimedia venue.  This space is truly impressive.  It is run by the same people who brought PDX the 2410 but it so much better.  All though it is a warehouse space, they have truly transformed into into lots of finished spaces for chilling out.  Plus, the main room, with the dance floor is stunning with the tension fabric installment.  If there is even one show you come across that you find you might be interested in attending, I highly encourage you to go.  You won't be disappointed.

Motor City Drum Ensemble

The past 3 months or so I have become enamored with Motor City Drum Ensemble (MCDE).  I cannot even describe how his amazingness.  In my little microcosm, he has provided a major jump start to my renewed passion for dance music.  Here is some details on him and a really cool mix he put up on RBMA:

RBMA Radio - MCDE (MCDE, Four Roses, Germany) - Train Wreck Mix

Danilo Plessow started playing drums at the tender age of six and discovered his love for jazz in the school big band. From eleven, he started working on his own original productions using samples and a computer. Influenced by jazz, soul, funk, hip hop and house, the first complete results were released on Stuttgart's Pulver Records five years later. Together with Joachim Tobias, Danilo had formed the house and broken beat project Inverse Cinematics. A manifold of releases followed and the project gathered fans in the form of Gilles Peterson, Rainer Truby and Benji B. Not before long however, Danilo revisited his house music roots and started making music under the moniker Motor City Drum Ensemble. MCDE soon became his best known and his Raw Cuts series released on his own label MCDE (run with Pablo Valentino), made him a shooting star in the deep house scene. Danilo has released on no less than twenty-four labels in his twenty-four years. He has evidently been busy. Not too busy however to record us a mix. Keep an eye on this one (if you can keep up), he's a legend in the making.
