REFUGE PDX

So, let me start off with...this weekend was amazing.  The Alga-Rhythms launch was more than we could have ever hoped for.  The Whiskey was jumping until 2:30am.  Tim Green played an incredible set.  The crew and  Tim mobbed to Refuge in time for us to take over the afterhours there.  Then some down time happened before we all rallied to the BEACH PARTY.  8 hours of dancing in the sand to Tim Green, J Phlip and The Perfect Cyn.  INCREDIBLE!  Thank you party people for making it happen.  Once more pictures get posted I will compile them all and put them on here.
So, to the left is pictures of Refuge, Portland's newest music/multimedia venue.  This space is truly impressive.  It is run by the same people who brought PDX the 2410 but it so much better.  All though it is a warehouse space, they have truly transformed into into lots of finished spaces for chilling out.  Plus, the main room, with the dance floor is stunning with the tension fabric installment.  If there is even one show you come across that you find you might be interested in attending, I highly encourage you to go.  You won't be disappointed.

Motor City Drum Ensemble

The past 3 months or so I have become enamored with Motor City Drum Ensemble (MCDE).  I cannot even describe how his amazingness.  In my little microcosm, he has provided a major jump start to my renewed passion for dance music.  Here is some details on him and a really cool mix he put up on RBMA:

RBMA Radio - MCDE (MCDE, Four Roses, Germany) - Train Wreck Mix

Danilo Plessow started playing drums at the tender age of six and discovered his love for jazz in the school big band. From eleven, he started working on his own original productions using samples and a computer. Influenced by jazz, soul, funk, hip hop and house, the first complete results were released on Stuttgart's Pulver Records five years later. Together with Joachim Tobias, Danilo had formed the house and broken beat project Inverse Cinematics. A manifold of releases followed and the project gathered fans in the form of Gilles Peterson, Rainer Truby and Benji B. Not before long however, Danilo revisited his house music roots and started making music under the moniker Motor City Drum Ensemble. MCDE soon became his best known and his Raw Cuts series released on his own label MCDE (run with Pablo Valentino), made him a shooting star in the deep house scene. Danilo has released on no less than twenty-four labels in his twenty-four years. He has evidently been busy. Not too busy however to record us a mix. Keep an eye on this one (if you can keep up), he's a legend in the making.

The Automatic Message

These are my awesome Canadian friends:
The Automatic Message is an ongoing audiovisual project between Trevor Jacobson (techno producer) and Tanya Goehring (photographer/non-linear filmmaker). Mixing photography, film and sound together, they create slightly off-kilter techno and perform live audiovisual sets. With releases out on the Seattle label From 0-1 and the Montreal label Monsieur Musique, The Automatic Message is proving to be a new act to watch. Their first release on From 0-1 – “Moving Walkway” – hit #3 on Speedy J’s Electric Deluxe, Juno and Resident Advisor summer 2009 charts. They are currently based in Vancouver, BC.

And here is their awesome mix...Enjoy!

Minimal

This is what I am doing this Saturday night (2/20).  I've been very interested in checking out the Foundation North Portland Artist Collective since I saw a post on www.nwtekno.org announcing it's grand opening on February 6.  Every Saturday it features various styles: 1st Saturday is Hip Hop; 2nd Saturday is Jungle and DnB; 3rd Saturday is Techno/House: 4th is Dubstep/Bass.  I am quite curious as to what exactly is the Collective and hope on becoming somewhat involved in seeing it lift off the ground....gotta do some neighborhood support.  Minimal will be the main focus.  Expect to hear something like this:

What a Lodge?!?!?

So, for some reason, I was searching on Craigslist for Event Spaces. You know, sometimes you just need a nice working knowledge of what places can work for your next party of so that your own home doesn't get wrecked when closest friends get too fucked up and don't realize they are puking on your couch. Not only is there puke on your couch but your shower rod is pulled down and there are, for some reason, adult diapers scattered on your kitchen floor. Seriously, the only good option for the next party is to have it somewhere else...and this place is perfect.

Note: Dance Floor on the Mezzanine.
I am going to rent this place and it is going to be one hell of a party. Here's the VRBO link just in case: http://www.vrbo.com/275095

Hola mi Amigos!

Just a quick update and looksee to what this is all about...
I will be posting discopoptechnofunk lalalalalala DJ mixes that I dig (and some that I have been responsible in creating) and possibly do some sharing of shows in PDX and Beyond that I find yummy. Also, don't be surprised if there is a review of something awesome thrown in here and there for good measure. There might even be some pictures...
So, first order of business is this little mix I posted on mixcloud last week. There's a lot of local PDX love found in this set: Starfucker, Copy, Strategy, The Blow. Enjoy!
